Springville Art Museum - Family Program, Events

Youth & Family Programs

Community & Family Night
Join us for Community and Family Night at the Springville Museum of Art for an evening of fun and entertainment every first Monday of the month from 6-8 pm. The evening begins with an interesting and often interactive presentation by a local artist. In the past we have had scupltor Korry Bird, quilter Marsha Harward, Illustrator Bryan Beus, and even a comicstrip artist Todd McAllister. The artist is followed by some form of entertainment ranging from vocal groups to dance and even Karate demonstrations. A hands-on art project led by the Museum’s Art Educators will inspire participants to explore their creative side. The Museum will remain open until 8 pm, to allow visitors extra time to walk through the galleries and enjoy the exhibitions currently on display.

Princess Tea

Calling all Princesses! The Hafen-Dallin Volunteer Guild hosts a Princess Tea at the Springville Museum of Art on a Saturday during the summer. Along with light refreshments, there is a fashion show, storytelling, an art project and each girl will get a princess photo. This is a fundraiser that benefits programming at the Museum. Look for more details next summer!

Museum Day
Join us for a day of fun, learning, and art!  Throughout the day special tours, hands-on art projects, and other activities will be available for all Museum visitors.  Museum members who attend will receive a special gift.  There is no cost to attend, so bring your family, and experience SMA together! This event is free and open to the public. Museum Day is held in conjunction with Smithsonian magazine's annual Museum Day events, usually the last Saturday in September.

Summer Art Classes
Come to SMA for two series of art classes with separate sessions for ages 7-10 and 14-18.  Enroll in "Adventures in Art," where your child will explore each element and principle of art and learn exciting new techniques with a certified art teacher.  We will be discovering new artists, scavenging the museum, and creating pieces to build our portfolios.  At the end of four weeks, students will have become more comfortable creating, viewing, and discussing art.   Or you can enroll in "Focusing on Faces," where your child will learn to draw portraits from a professional portrait artist and art educator.  Participants will not only learn how to draw faces realistically, but will also learn the skills to accurately depict individuals.  Each class will focus on a specific feature and the course will culminate with a finished portrait drawing.

$25 Member Priority Registration: February 1-29
$25 Early Registration: March 1-31
$30 General Registration: April 1-30

Registration materials will be available February 1.

Children's Art Festival
Each June, in conjunction with Springville City's Art City Days, SMA hosts a day of fun for all ages, filled with art making, entertainment, and delicious food!
During that time, the front lawn of the Museum will be home to over twenty different art experiences for young artists.   As always there will be face painting, and a program of entertainment provided by local groups.  SMA's Art Royalty will be selling food as a fundraiser (for more about the Art Royalty, click here).
The Festival is free and open to the public.  Every year, SMA sees over 2,000 children and their families participate in the Children's Art Festival and we want this year to be bigger than ever!  If you are interested in volunteering at the Festival, or have any questions, contact us at (801) 489-2727.
