Host families needed

These students are coming and they don’t have families for them yet. If you can host, please contact Lisa at p.i.e._llk@q.com .

It is a great opportunity and the time goes by quickly so if you are still thinking, “maybe…” why not just try it. Look at the list of kids and see if you find one that would fit with your family and open your home to them for these few weeks. J

If you know of anyone else who might be interested, please forward this email. They really need to find more host families soon so these kids have somewhere to stay.

Thanks!

Tresta Neil = Instilling Confidence and Clarity in Your Children in an Unsure World
Mindy Heath = How to Feel Joy and Connection Every Day!
Thom Neil = What Your Body Language Says Effects Your Relationships

How To Live With Peace, Joy and Connection Every Single Day!
Do you ever feel like you are doing all the "right" things but getting all the "wrong" results? Are you sometimes just going thru the motions but not really feeling love, passion and joy as a wife and mother? In fact, do you know you are a child of God but have trouble feeling it? You're not alone! We know we are children of God, that Heavenly Father loves us and what He wants for us. I know you can SAY it, but do you FEEL it? Do you truly know who YOU are? Do you know who He created you to be? Do you know your purpose on this earth, your passion? Do you even feel worthy of His love? Often we are doing all the "right" things yet we feel inadequate, overwhelmed and not sure how to change it. Living with peace, joy and connection in all areas of your life is possible for you! In fact often when we don't feel peace and joy it's not for a lack of trying but a lack of knowledge. Living with peace and joy is a matter of specific principles, paradigms and tools. Come learn:
-how to get clear on who God created you to be and how to feel His love daily
-how to live with peace, joy, clarity and connection no matter your circumstances
-the ways we give away our power and create our own suffering and how to stop it NOW!
-what is truly going on in our heads and how to get control over our fears and insecurities

Mindy Heath is a joyful wife and mother of four who has been also been home schooling for 12 years. With a degree from BYU in Family Sciences and a passion for helping women discover their worth and live their truth, Mindy has been inspiring others through one on one mentoring, writing and public speaking for 7 years. Personally she has dealt with and overcome health, financial, self worth, relationship and other struggles. Through her personal learning and healing she has learned how to live joyfully every single day no matter what challenges arise. Her passion is showing others to do the same. Mindy is the creator ofLivingtheJoyfulLife.com and with her dear husband HealingMarriages.com
Tresta Neil is happy wife and hip mother of eight. She has been homeschooling since her first was born, 18 years ago. With two college degrees she felt unsure and not very smart, it was through homeschooling her children that she gained the confidence and the intelligence she now feels. She has come through some tough situations like eight very itchy pregancies, living in a two bedroom basement apartment with eight children for eight years and her son receiving a liver transplant. She has learned how to be happy and hip through it all and is passionate about sharing what she has learned with others that may be going through similar things. Tresta is the founder and creator of KeystoneEd.com and with her husband Center Point Events.

Summer plays for kids

This summer I am doing 3 Plays with 12 actors each for children ages 7-11 at my home in South Provo.

They are based on fairy-tales, the fee is $12, and we create all the sets from cardboard. We'll meet 3-4pm for 1 week and perform it Sat. morning at a park in Provo.

This is just for fun--it's a chance for the first-time actor to be in a play and get a little messy with paint too.

I will save spots once money is received. You can learn more details and see a few photos from last year's play we did at

http://acardboardplay.blogspot.com/

you can reach me at 801-373-0424

Honors Humanities Class at Merit

Merit Academy Humanities Seminar (For grades 7-12)
Instructors: Gregory Duffin and Joni Newman

9-12: M/W/F from approximately 8:30-10:45
7-9: M/W/F from approximately 10:50-1:14

Merit Academy's Humanities Seminar is one of the most unique and innovative classes a student can participate in.  Taught by two dynamic teachers, students in the Humanities Seminar learn history and English together.  This approach allows students to focus on making connections between topics that the average eye would see as unrelated.  (Ever thought of comparing Confucius to Atticus Finch?)  These connections also help us as a class to focus on how education inside the classroom impacts our lives outside of it, preparing students mentally for the "real world".

The class rotates through a four year cycle of curriculum topics.  Next year we are teaching one of our favorites - the Ancient World.  Students will engage with Socrates, Ancient Egyptian funerary texts, Confucius, the Bhagavad Gita, and many other original sources.  They will then connect these texts to several classic novels looking at the theme of how ancient values fit in a modern world.  Students will read books like Huckleberry Finn, Lord of the Flies, and To Kill a Mockingbird.  They will also participate in several field trips throughout the year, including class trips to the Hare Krishna temple in Salem, Temple Square in Salt Lake, and Utah Lake.  There are additional class "club" trips to the symphony and theatrical productions throughout the year so that we can expand our cultural vocabulary.

CIVIL WAR ENCAMPMENT AT CAMP FLOYD STATE PARK

CIVIL WAR ENCAMPMENT AT CAMP FLOYD STATE PARK

Fairfield – Camp Floyd State Park in conjunction with the Utah Civil War Association are hosting a Civil War Encampment on Memorial Day Weekend, May 26 and 28, 2012 at Camp Floyd State Park.  The event will allow visitors to experience camp life and participate in several activities performed by soldiers of Johnston’s Army.  Events include reenactments, encampments, stagecoach rides (Monday 12pm – 2pm), firearm and cannon demonstrations, marches, drills, 1861 period games, and photos in period uniform.  The events will be conducted 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on both days.

All events (except stagecoach rides) are free of charge.  Standard museum entrance fees of $2 per person or $6 per family still apply.  Food concession will be available to purchase at the event.

Established in 1858, Camp Floyd housed the largest concentration of U.S. troops then in the United State.  The troops were sent to Utah to suppress a rumored Mormon rebellion which never took place.  The army was recalled back east in 1861 for the Civil War emergency.  Today, the park museum houses artifacts and exhibits from this historic event.

Camp Floyd State Park is located in the town of Fairfield, 22 miles southwest of Lehi on State Highway 73.  For more information about the event or park, please contact the park at 801-768-8932.

Need boys for pioneer pagaent

The Pioneer Pageant is a local production, written and produced by Merrill Osmond that started back in the late 80's and has traveled as far as Branson, MO. It is back here in the Salt Lake Valley this year and will be performed in West Jordan at the West Jordan Arena on July 20, 21, 23, 24. It is a huge production including many dance numbers & a firework finale.

They are finalizing roles and realizing the need for additional boys in the production.

The rehearsals are in West Jordan, 2-3 evenings a week until the last few weeks prior to the show, when they will be more often.

The boys will be learning dances, such as the Virginia Reel, but no dance experience is necessary. I'm sure they would appreciate children who can listen well and are willing to learn.

Go to http://www.pioneerpageant.com for info or email cast.pioneerpageant@gmail.com if you are interested in participating.

Adult summer soccer

Hi everyone,

Years ago I got tired of waiting for one of the local cities to organize an adult soccer league so I went ahead and started a summer recreational adult co-ed soccer league in the North Utah county area. We have a lot of fun playing games on Saturday mornings at 8:30-10 during the summer months till fall youth soccer starts using the fields which usually means about 9-10 games starting in early/mid-June.

About 10% of the league is comprised of people who have never played soccer before and so they get an armband that tells experienced players to back off and let them run with the ball, make a pass, take a shot, etc... so they get a little experience and have a fun time. This works out really well for new players who want to try out the game but haven’t played before. People from age 18 into their 50’s play in the league and it’s a lot of fun. Signups are happening right now if you’re interested. It’s only $15 to get a minor commitment level from people, and you get a cool soccer t-shirt to wear for the games.

If you want to sign up and try it out, please go here:

You can make special requests to be with relatives/friends.  Signups end this week.

Oak Norton

Center Point Event

Have you ever asked yourself:
Am I teaching my child everything he needs to know before he leaves home?
What is the "right" thing for this child?
What does she need now in order for her to be a great mother in the future world?
Is he well equipped to go out on his own?
Where are the instructions? - Believe it or not there are  instructions!

We asked ourselves these same questions and spent years finding the
answers, mainly through trial and error. We have discovered a formula
that has brought great clarity to these answers and we want to share
it with you!

Join us May 12 for this free event from 9:30-1:30 and discover the
simplicity of the answers. Learn the most important thing your child
should know; the formula for raising spiritual, successful children;

Also, Tresta will be teaching about the divided number two. Discover
how the Fall happened and how it was apart of the plan. How working

To those of you who believe in the power of music like I do...

My husband and I have just launched Brigham's School of Music<http://www.brighamsschoolofmusic.com>at our piano
store <http://www.brighamspianos.com> in Pleasant Grove. We would love to share with music-minded families. We have something for everyone ages 0-99.
Coming up in June we have summer camps <http://brighamsschoolofmusic.com/?page_id=27> for Way Cool Keyboarding for Kids (7-10) and Teens (11-14). These would be for piano beginners and your kids would LOVE IT!!!!!!

We are also offering group lessons for Adult piano
beginners<http://brighamsschoolofmusic.com/?page_id=52>that are using an exciting curriculum that is sweeping the nation and promoting recreational music making and wellness. (isn't it great when kids in lessons see their parents at the piano too?)

Coming up in June we'll start Let's Play Music<http://brighamsschoolofmusic.com/?page_id=7>(2-4 year olds).
July we start offering Kindermusik<http://brighamsschoolofmusic.com/?page_id=11>(0-7 year old)

And the really exciting part....is our upcoming Homeschool Music Club<http://brighamsschoolofmusic.com/?page_id=161>

We also have private lessons for piano and voice.
